I've suffered from diabetes for as long as I can remember. You learn to live with it, but it's not easy. As a young elementary school student, I remember having to eat a snack before lunch while we were still in class. The attention this earned me was not welcomed. Other kids looked at me funny. They had questions. No one on the outside understood diabetes at such a young age. As time has gone on, diabetes has become more a characteristic of my life; one I've coped with. I monitor my diet very closely to avoid complications but the young confusion is what will always stick out in my mind.
